5 EARLY WARNING SIGNS OF CERVICAL CANCER WOMEN OFTEN IGNORE

Cervical cancer is one of the most preventable — yet most overlooked — cancers affecting women today. When caught early, it’s highly treatable, but the problem is that its first symptoms are often mistaken for something harmless. Doctors warn that ignoring these subtle changes can allow the disease to progress silently for months or even years.

Here are five early signs every woman should pay attention to:

1. Unusual Vaginal Bleeding
Bleeding after intimacy, between periods, or after menopause is one of the clearest warning signs. Even light spotting at unexpected times should not be ignored — it’s your body signaling something isn’t right.

2. Abnormal Discharge
A sudden change in vaginal discharge — especially if it becomes watery, thick, has a foul odor, or turns brownish — can indicate infection or abnormal cell growth in the cervix.

3. Pelvic or Lower Back Pain
Persistent pain in the pelvis, hips, or lower back, especially during or after intercourse, can be a sign that the cancer has started affecting nearby tissues.

4. Pain or Discomfort During Intercourse
If intimacy suddenly becomes painful without an obvious reason, it could be more than hormonal change or dryness. This symptom is often linked to cervical irritation or lesions.

5. Fatigue and Unexplained Weight Loss
When cancer begins spreading, the body uses more energy to fight it. If you’re constantly tired, losing weight without trying, or feeling weak, it’s time to get checked.

Doctors stress that regular Pap smears and HPV tests remain the most effective ways to detect cervical cancer early. Women over 25 should schedule screenings regularly — even if they feel healthy.

Early detection can save lives. Listening to your body, noticing changes, and acting quickly could be the difference between a simple treatment and a life-threatening disease.
